When your computer crashes (note I said when not if) and you lose all your data, having your Address Book synchronized with Google will enable you to restore your contacts almost immediately after your computer is restored. Here's how to do that.
Open Address Book and then open Preferences by going to the Contacts menu item and selecting "Preferences" or by holding down the Command key and pressing the comma key (",").
When preferences open, click on the Accounts button and check the box that says "Synchronize with Google". Then click the "Configure" button.
Enter in your school email address and that eight letter password I gave you at the beginning of the year. If you have forgotten it, email me and I'll send it to you.
That's it! Give the synchronization process about 15 or 20 minutes. Your Address Book contact list will be uploaded to Google. If you lose data in the future, resynchronizing with Google will restore all your contacts.
