Here's just a quick post, to myself, really, about a terminal command that will stop iTunes from doing an automatic backup of your iPhone or iPod. Why would you want to do that? Read on...
First the command:
write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true
In order to restore backing up, you just change "true" to "false".
Terminal is a really great way to do stuff directly to the core of the Apple operating system.
The reason I wanted to disable it is because when you're working on 20 iPods at a time (as I often do), waiting for each iPod to automatically back up wastes a lot of time. In addition, I usually have one iPod configured the way I want it and then I restore that image to all the other iPods. So, again, no backup is needed.
I'll post additional terminal commands in the future.
