I'm posting this Tech Tip so that I won't have to wrestle with this issue the next time it rears its ugly head; and, trust me, it will.

So, in this exercise we're trying to print from Pages to 4 X 6 cards in landscape mode. That is the long side of the card will be the top. This is typically how speakers will create their notes for their presentation. Getting it to print properly is another issue.
The first thing you have to do is configure the proper paper size in the inspector. You'll do that by first clicking the "Page Setup" button. We'll deal with margins and such later.
My dialogue shows the correct paper/card size, but yours will probably show something like "Letter". You're going to have to change it to tell Pages you are printing to a different size paper. Also make sure you're printing to the correct printer. Click the drop down arrow to open the dialogue so you can select...
"Manage Custom Size". We're going to enter in the specs of the card stock.
Most likely, your custom paper list will be empty, so first, click the "plus" sign at the bottom to create a new size. The default will be "Untitled" - double click that and name it anything you want. The default margins should be OK, but just make sure they match with the margin settings we're going to do next. Notice that the Width and Height are NONINTUITIVE! That's because we want to print these things in LANDSCAPE mode - which we'll set in a minute. (I HATE IT when technology is non-intuitive - and MUCH of it is! Click OK when you are done.
Back to the Page Setup dialogue - make sure you select the "Landscape" icon because this is how the cards will be fed into the printer from the manual feed tray.
Now you can set the margins for the document. I haven't done any extensive testing on this (because I've already wasted too much time on it as it is); but make sure that your document margins don't conflict with the margins you set on the custom paper size. I THINK, if you set the margins for less than the custom paper size, the custom paper size margin will over ride it. (In this exampel, I set the bottom margin for "0", so I THINK the bottom will really be .22".
Here's where the ridiculousness of all this begins. In order to figure all this out, I had to put a letter size piece of paper in the manual feed tray to see how the document would print.
In the past, I've had to "fool" the printer into thinking it was printing on a "Letter" sized document, but I'd put the content, sort of, in the middle of the page so, when the card went through, it would print out correctly. If that sounds too complicated, don't worry about.
This is what the printer industry has foisted on all of us and we, blithely, sit by while they dangle us like puppets on a string. But I for one say, NO - I'll all for saving the Rainforest. NO MORE PRINTING. I mean, seriously, who needs to clutter up their lives with paper. We should be ashamed that we're still stuck in the 1990's and chained to outdated technology!
