A week or so ago we had an assembly at the school where we learned about some of the animals of the Rainforest. At the beginning of the show the presenter asked what could we do to save the rainforest. It was all I could do to restrain myself from screaming out - STOP PRINTING!
Here is a nice little info graphic that outlines the six emerging technologies mentioned in this, and my prior, post. We covered three of them in my last post and this post will continue with the final three.
In 2011 a group called the New Media Consortium (an international community of experts in educational technology, as their website explains) released their third annual report. As they state on the cover of the report, the NMC Horizon Project "identifies and describes emerging technologies likely to have a large impact on teaching, learning, research, or creative expression within education around the globe".
I read an editorial in Penthouse magazine (I only bought it for the articles) over 20 years ago written by Frank Herbert (who wrote the Dune Chronicles - one of the best sci-fi reads of all time). He warned about the coming of technology and said that those who didn't learn to control technology would be controlled by it. Boy was he right!
You've heard of Web 2.0 ? If not, here is a link to an article claiming to document its origin. If you read the article you can see how and what technologies were updated.
Well move over 2.0 because the next generation of websites is here; and, yes, it's literally a revolution. A teacher was working in Premiere Elements 10 and made extensive use of the Pan and Zoom tool; or, what has come to be called the "Ken Burns Effect". It's that feature of adding motion to a still graphic that Ken Burns popularized in his documentary on The Civil War.
